Gretzky Finally Beats Billy Smith
On 5/17/84 at Northlands Coliseum, Wayne Gretzky scores on a breakaway against nemesis Billy Smith in Game 3 of the 1984 Stanley Cup Final. The Oilers go on to win the series 4-1 and capture their first Stanley Cup. The year before, the Islanders swept the Oilers in the finals largely due to the brilliant goaltending of Smith. This may have been the most significant goal of Gretzky's career.
